About "Gopal Yonjan"

Gopal Yonzon is one of the first generation of Nepali musicians to break through to the professional scene. He studied and researched folk and traditional music from Nepal, especially Rabindra Sangeet and Newari classical music, for years, as well as Indian music. His compositions are a reflection of this profoundly natural link, which he felt would transcend national boundaries and strike a common chord throughout the region. He didn't limit the forms or types of his compositions.

Gopal began performing music as a flautist. His first song was recorded in 1964, and he penned his first lyrics in 1963. His musical compositions include ballads, dancing melodies, spiritual, romantic, philosophical, nationalistic/patriotic, odes to women and womanhood, songs for kids and young adults, and thematic songs on sports, the environment, scouting, and other topics. There is an infinite list. His interpretations span from strictly classical music to folk, contemporary, and music composed especially for young girls and women. Throughout all of this variance, he skillfully and sensitively captures the essence of Nepal.
